Global spending on imported pork reached US$37.3 billion in 2025, making pork one of the most widely traded meat products in international commerce.
Compared with US$38.3 billion in 2021, the total value of worldwide pork imports declined by 2.7% over the five-year period. On a year-over-year basis, however, the market remained relatively stable, with global pork imports increasing slightly by 1.1% from US$36.9 billion in 2024.
The world's largest pork importing markets in 2025 were Japan, Mexico, Italy, South Korea, and Mainland China. Together, these five countries accounted for 40.3% of total global pork import value, highlighting their significant role in international pork demand.
From a regional perspective, Europe remained the largest importing market, purchasing US$16.8 billion worth of pork and representing 45.2% of global imports. Asia ranked second with 30.2%, while North America accounted for 15.7% of worldwide import value.
The remaining imports were distributed across Latin America (6%), excluding Mexico but including Caribbean countries, Oceania (2.2%), led by Australia and New Zealand, and Africa (0.7%).

For customs classification purposes, fresh, chilled, or frozen pork is identified under HS Code 0203 in the Harmonized System.
Top Pork Importing Countries
The following countries recorded the highest import values for pork in 2025:
1. Japan — US$4.1 billion (11.1%)
2. Mexico — US$3.9 billion (10.3%)
3. Italy — US$3 billion (8.2%)
4. South Korea — US$2.1 billion (5.5%)
5. Mainland China — US$1.93 billion (5.2%)
6. Poland — US$1.87 billion (5%)
7. Germany — US$1.7 billion (4.4%)
8. United States — US$1.5 billion (4.1%)
9. United Kingdom — US$1.1 billion (3%)
10. Czech Republic — US$1 billion (2.7%)
11. France — US$996.3 million (2.7%)
12. Romania — US$992.4 million (2.7%)
13. Greece — US$755.4 million (2%)
14. Philippines — US$745.4 million (2%)
15. Hong Kong — US$670.1 million (1.8%)
Combined, these 15 countries represented 70.7% of the total value of pork imported worldwide in 2025.
Among the leading importers, the Philippines recorded the strongest year-over-year growth, with pork imports rising 41.2%. Mexico also posted robust growth of 18.4%, followed by Hong Kong (+8.1%) and the Czech Republic (+4.4%).
Meanwhile, several major markets reduced their pork purchases during the year. Romania experienced the largest decline, with imports falling 14.9% compared with 2024. Other notable decreases were reported by Germany (-10.2%), the United Kingdom (-9.2%), and Mainland China (-8%).
